Winds of Change: From Vendor Lock-in to the Meta Cloud

Undeniable trends: From Vendor Lock-in to the Meta Cloud Presentation: A product necessity detail is a finished clarification of the framework that will be made. Programming necessity detail incorporates non-utilitarian and practical prerequisites. Use case strategy can be utilized in arranged to recognize the utilitarian necessities of the product developments. Non-practical prerequisites are necessities which power imperatives on the execution and plan. As frameworks developed increasingly intricate, it turns out to be progressively evident that the objective of the whole framework can’t be handily included. The product necessity particular comprises of two significant exercises. Issue/Requirement examination Item Function synopsis Security is one of the most significant focuses in remote correspondence examines on the grounds that it is a fundamental test since remote messages are transmitted noticeable all around so quite possibly programmers can peruse out the messages and see what all the substance are there in the message. Motivation behind Software Requirement Specification: A product necessity particular exemplifies the prerequisites of a framework IEEE standard and is a sorted out assortment of data. A business investigator (BA), now and again called framework expert is significant for inspecting the business needs of their customers and for the people having premium and worry in taking care of the issues and discovering answer for the issues. BA regularly plays out a correspondence between the business side of an undertaking and the data innovation division. To list the client necessity in a predefined way is the principle motivation behind programming prerequisite particular. It characterizes necessities for the product and limitations expected to this application and report. 4.2 Performance Requirements Conveyability: It is simple for the client to comprehend and react as the Graphical User Interface of this application is easy to use. Reaction time: It is the time taken to finish a work by the framework by the client is seen as less. Unwavering quality: This framework causes us to convey the requirement for inquiries with high chance and the functionalities that are accessible in the application. Adaptability: To improve the nature of the item, the framework can be stretched out to consolidate the progressions that are done in the current application. Versatility is intended for the future works that will be done on the application. 4.3 Functional Requirements: Utilitarian necessities are the announcements of administrations the framework should gracefully, how the framework ought to act specifically condition and how it carries on to specific information sources. Additionally the useful necessities characterize what the framework ought not do at times. The practical prerequisites depends on the sort of programming being advanced, when composing necessities the general methodology taken by the association and the envision clients of the product. These prerequisites for a framework report what the framework ought to do. The prerequisites are ordinarily portrays in a genuinely theoretical manner when it is shown as client necessities. Useful necessities might be displayed from multiple points of view for a product framework and it portrays the anomaly, its data sources and yields and elements of framework in detail. A portion of the common useful prerequisites are: 1. Exchange redresses, alterations, undoings: Here transferring the information on cloud by information proprietors are by the exchanges which is done on the web. The end clients transfer the records to each cloud servers can be downloaded and seen and these end clients need to enroll to cloud specialist co-ops. 2. Validation: Here the clients validation is required to enter any of the modules executed in the proposed framework and is utilized to login into the cloud specialist co-ops servers. 3. Approval capacities client is doled out to perform: Here the clients are permitted to login by enlisting and paying into cloud servers if the cloud administrations are to be utilized by paying. Client has the option to transfer the documents to individual cloud servers and track the subtleties which are transferred in the wake of signing into the cloud by enrolling. 4. Review Tracking: A review trail which is additionally called as review log gives narrative evidence of the arrangement of exercises that have explained whenever a specific activity, technique or occasion and is a security-material sequential record, set of precedents, as well as toward the finish of line and wellspring of records. Logical exploration and human services information exchanges, money related exchanges, or interchanges by unique individuals, frameworks, segments, accounts or different substances are the exercises where the review records commonly result from. The method that produces a review trail can enter and regulate all activities from all clients; a standard client isn't approved to stop or change it and is normally required to consistently run in a prosperous mode. Moreover, database table with a string or trail document isn't reachable to ordinary clients at times. The utilization of a job based security model in the product is another method of managing this issue. When utilizin g review trail usefulness, the product is required by numerous organizations and it can likewise fill in as a ‘closed system’ or with shut circled controls. 5. Recorded Data: Authentic information is the information which is an assortment of old records and it ought to consistently be available in database. Verifiable information ought not be erased by the cloud specialist organization from the database with the exception of the information proprietors are requesting to erase the chronicled information. 4.4 Non-Functional Requirements: Non-useful prerequisites are the necessities that are regularly called the characteristics of the framework. It very well may be utilized to frame the activity of the framework, instead of explicit practices. Unwavering quality (precision), reaction time and store inhabitance are the new framework properties that non-practical necessities manage. Then again, they may characterize the limitations on the information portrayals utilized in framework interfaces and the framework capacities of I/O gadgets. Non-practical necessities are limitations, quality properties for example it give the strategy to planning the wellness and appropriateness of the item, quality objectives, non-conduct prerequisites for example it accomplishes its activity, for example, reliability(accuracy) and characterizes the qualities of the framework, efficiency(planning), timing imperatives and so on.. Non-practical prerequisites are partitioned into two principle classes: Security and convenience are execution characteristics. Testability, practicality, extensibility and adaptability are development characteristics. A portion of the non-useful necessities are: Availability Availability is the one wherein a gadget, administration, item or condition is accessible to numerous individuals as could reasonably be expected. Openness advantage from some framework or association and it tends to be seen as the â€Å"ability to access†. The distributed computing framework is appropriated programming so it tends to be reached from any purpose of the world through web without meddling. Accessibility Accessibility is how much a framework, subsystem, constituent or hardware is in a nitty gritty operable and happening state toward the beginning of a crucial, the mission is called for as an obscure for example a vague time. The distributed computing framework is conveyed programming so it tends to be reached from any purpose of the world without impedance. Unwavering quality Programming unwavering quality is the exactness that has probability that product will work appropriately in a distinguished domain and for a given time. The chance of disappointment is determined by testing an example of all accessible info states utilizing the accompanying recipe. Likelihood = Number of bombing cases/Total number of cases viable. Framework Reliability Specification: Equipment unwavering quality Probability an equipment segment comes up short. Programming unwavering quality Probability a product part will deliver an erroneous yield Despite the fact that a terrible outcome will happen, programming can keep on working in that condition Administrator unwavering quality Probability a framework client will make a blunder Dept. of CSE,STJIT,RANEBENNURPage 1 Undervaluing in Turkey: a Comparison of the IPO Methods Undervaluing in Turkey: a Comparison of the IPO Methods Dynamic This paper tends to the topic of what sort of selling and guaranteeing method may be favored for controlling the sum and unpredictability of undervaluing in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE). Utilizing 1993-2005 firm and issue information, we look at the three generously unique IPO strategies accessible in the ISE. One is fundamentally the same as the book building component utilized in the U.S., another is the fixed value offer, and the third one is the deal through the stock trade strategy. The observational investigation uncovers noteworthy first day undervaluing of 7.01% in fixed value offer, 11.47% in book building instrument, and 15.68% in deal through the stock trade technique. At long last, we likewise show that fixed value offers can more readily control the effect of market data on undervaluing than deal through the stock trade technique. 1. Presentation Broad measure of examination from a wide range of business sectors have recorded the nearness of first-day undervaluing upon the posting of beginning open contributions. The proof is very much archived by Loughran, Ritter, and Rydqvist (1994) and Ritter1 (1998), (2003) in many created and developing markets. In created markets, without limitations on intra-day value developments, first-day undervaluing is seen in wide value groups. Be that as it may, in developing markets, within the sight of every day unpredictability limits, first-day undervaluing is seen in restricted value groups. Rather than the day by day value limits, huge positive short run returns are seen in various developing markets and considerable measure of cash is â€Å"left on the table by guarantors. Morality And Happiness By Robert C. Solomon, Clancy Martin...

Morality and Happiness Everyone wants to be happy during their life, but is acting morally necessary for happiness? According to Introducing Philosophy, by Robert C. Solomon, Clancy Martin and Kathleen M. Higgins, many people say that â€Å"any good moral rule should promote the greatest happiness for the greatest number† (447). I believe that this statement is true. Morality is necessary for happiness because every person has someone in this world that they truly care about. We all care about someone and we do not want to hurt them. When we see their happiness, it makes us truly happy. On the other hand, when we do something immoral it really does hurt us and others. I believe that we all have a sense of regret after doing so. Everyone has a different motivation for the actions and behaviors seen as acceptable, but morality cannot be defined in a way that fits every society’s benefits and interpretation. Everyone has something inside of them that makes them want to do good and make someone in this world happy. According to Kant, â€Å"some of our feelings are satisfied by moral acts and such moral feelings can be found in virtually all of us† (482). For me, that connection is why morality and happiness go hand and hand. Immoral acts can be fun or tempting and people commit immoral acts all the time. I believe that when people do a good deed it will bring more joy to them than doing something immoral. It may be more fun; however, they can affect the happiness of others in a bad

How Hume s Position Is On Human Understanding And How...

In reading the Enquiry, we have to consider on how Hume’s position is on human understanding and how knowledge is obtained, will provide a distinct relationship. We know that he believes that humans gain this knowledge through our senses. Hume has provided two phrases on knowledge and how they are provided. He had stated that the experience that we gain is known as â€Å"Matters of Fact† and â€Å"Relations of Ideas†. Hume is telling us that the â€Å"matters of fact† is how we interact with the external world and â€Å"Relations of ideas† is from the internal world or the pure thought. Hume has set out a distinction of all references for the study of humans and provided with many definitions for us to understand. Each of these descriptions will become more and more in depth which can be referred to as Hume’s fork. This fork is an easy explanation of what divides the statements he refers eg. a priori is analytical and posteriori is synthetic. We will focus mostly on miracles and why they cannot happen. When we look up the definition of miracle it states that it is â€Å"a surprising and welcoming event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency†. Hume is against us in believing in miracles because it derives laws. People are damned sure they have seen a miracle or talked to someone that went through it. Can we really experience or witness miracles? A comparison of the two film versions of Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Essay Example For Students

A comparison of the two film versions of Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare in 1595. During the years past, film directors have used a wide range of techniques to bring the story of the star crossed lovers to our modern stages. Franco Zeffrelli directed a version of the play in 1968 as well as Luhrmann in 97; both directors had a common goal to grasp our attention with a story of the past. Both films were set in fair Verona and although they follow the same story line they are both very unique using lots of different media techniques. I will compare the directors techniques use of characterization and use of sound and visuals for impact. I will closely analyse the films presentation of Act1 scene 1. The directors have completely different openings to the film. Franco Zeffrellis all important opening shot is a medium close up zooming of the sun; this is a really important shot. Zeffrelli used the sun as his opening shot because later on in the film Romeo says that Juliet is his sun this shows comparison. Luhrmanns version however uses the prologue as his opening shot. He does this on a TV screen. This is quite clever; he brings the stories prologue to the modern day in an interesting way of using a newsreader. This is an effective way of setting the scene. Both films are set in Verona but Luhrmann set his film in Verona beach- Mexico, because he wanted to follow the idea that women were less powerful and needed protecting he wanted to choose a setting were that idea still coexisted in the modern world. Zaffrellis Italian set of Verona has a market full of the public this creates a jolly calm mood this then breaks to new mutiny as the rival familys feud speeds into a fight scene bringing with it an exiting mood. Luhrmanns setting in Verona beach was opened onto a motor way with the Montagues cruising down the interstate to the towns centre, the gas station; this is then followed up with the medium close up of the Capulet car. The next technique used is an ECU of the rival crests this shows oppositions and brings tension. This then leads to a battle, instead of using swords for this fight scene, like Franco Zaffrelli, Luhrman intelligently changes the weapons to a more modern pistol. To bring a bit of humour to the scene there is a MCU of a Montague getting hit on the head with a bag. Franco Zeffrelli cast Leonard Whiting for Romeo and Olivia Hussy for Juliet. Franco Zeffrelli described Leonard whiting as: having a magnificent face, gentle melancholy, sweet, the kind of idealistic young man Romeo ought to be. And that was the exact reason for his choice, he then chose Olivia hussy based on her only film Role Jenny in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie this was a brave and bold decision, he chose a near amateur to play one of the main roles, I think Zeffrelli made the right decision in doing this because she played the role as good as a professional with years of experience. Twenty eight years later Baz Luhrmann cast popular teen actor Leonardo Di Caprio as Romeo and the girl next door Claire Danes as Juliet Luhrmanns decision, as all directors, was well thought over. The actors played the parts to the best of their ability and scored many award nominations for their performances. Both directors used costume to make the actors fit in with the time periods, for example in 1968 Leonard whiting would not have worn tights and a tunic around the shops. In the Zeffrelli version the costumes where based on the renascence theme, long overdone dresses and tights and a tunic however in the Luhrmann film all of the costumes where modern. Depending on which family you belonged to you would of worn either suits or a Bermuda shirt and jeans. Juliet and the women on the other hand wore long floating dresses or a posh glittering dress. .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .postImageUrl , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:hover , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:visited , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:active { border:0!important; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:active , .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796 .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u77cb72d55820c75b87c3e223ed186796:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Merchant Of Venice, Perfect Play EssayAlthough the two films were set in two different time periods they both used the same Shakespearian language. I liked the language in the Zeffrelli film because it fitted with the setting and time period but I thought it was brave of Luhrmann to incorporate the old language into the new film. I did not agree with Luhrmann he had the correct cast, the correct techniques, the correct clothing but he had the wrong language from the film. Considering that the films target was children of my age, 14-18 years, I found it even harder to follow the story because I was trying to understand the language as well. This could have been Luhrmann s undoing, I would have enjoyed the film a lot more if I could understand what the characters where saying. In any film sound, music and language play a crucial role. Music and sound adds emotion to a scene, you cant think off jaws without the sound effects. Or Greece lightning without the music. In these to films it is no different, music and sound adds emotion. In the Zeffrelli version the music is mainly by Nino Rota an Italian composer. Zeffrelli wanted to make all of the music either calm or jolly. Luhrmann on the other hand wanted the music to be a bit more up tempo with lively music to keep us awake. He used composers and musicians such as Craig Armstrong, Nellee Hooper and Marius De Vries. Both films had the right music, but I think Zeffrelli should of used more of a variety of music maybe an exciting one for the fight scenes. In films their is a lot of mis-en-scene considerably more though in Luhrmanns version. Alone in act one scene one he had to deal with fast tracking, guns, metal plated shoes, fire, cars, and characters movement. He used an almost comical gun sound for the showdown. A phew years earlier in the past Zeffrellis version had sound but hardly any sound mis-en-scene I could only spot maybe the exaggerated sound of the swords grinding against each other. In both films Shakespearian language was used. Luhrmann and Zeffrelli spoke of how they wanted to use Shakespearian language. Luhrmann wanted to make the visual means of bringing the sometimes obscure references to life an not just rely on the language spoken. Were as Zeffrelli wanted to use Shakespearian language because it fitted with the period he was setting his film in. Both films use colour to emphasise different feelings and gangs, in the Zaffrelli version colour was use a lot to distinguish gangs, the Montagues often wore blue and silver whilst the Capulets wore red and gold, this was a simple yet effective way to let the audience see which person came from which gang. However in the Luhrmann version colour was not used so that it was in your face, it was discreet and occasionally obvious. But unlike Zaffrelli Luhrmann used costume styles to separate the gangs identities so it was harder to use colour for emphasis. During both films icons were used, In the Zaffrelli film the For the duration of both of the Romeo and Juliet films, themes played a crucial role in setting the two hours traffic of our stage. During the Luhrmann film violence was used to portray the uncivil feud between the two families. Gang culture and division was used to emphasize again the ancient grudge between the two rival gangs. However in the Zaffrrelli version violence and gang culture was used to emphasise the hate and anger driving these two families apart. But in the Zaffrelli version there was a hint more romance than in Luhrmanns confusing the audience and therefore entrancing them into the wonders of his film. .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .postImageUrl , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:hover , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:visited , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:active { border:0!important; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:active , .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293 .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1bf3c99dd595372db09426b29cbba293:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay about Shakespeare's Othello: Jealousy Sexual in Nature EssayI think both directors used a number of different techniques to successfully make the audience respond positively to their films. The Zaffrelli film used considerable amounts of violence, gang culture and romance to add fire and love to the film, the audience like me would have enjoyed the different scenes and themes. Zaffrellis audience would have especially liked the opening to the film using different camera angles and icons to delicately open the story of the star crossed lovers, keeping the audience hooked d with the music and then shaking them with the intense fight scene. Luhrmanns film however was targeted towards teenagers so he used lots of violence and gang culture to make his film appeal to the youngsters of today. Again he used different camera shots but also used special effects and sound to create a dramatic effect on the audience. Luhrmann successfully kept the audience on edge and awake. I think Zaffrelli was trying to make his audience feel calm and peaceful at the very beginning of his film and then to shock them with the actors realistic fighting. Luhrmann used fire and guns to excite his audience keeping the awake and alive he successfully brought his film to audiences of the younger generation. I liked both openings to the films; I liked the calm before the storm during the Zaffrelli opening but thought it needed a bit more fighting and action, being a typical 15 year old boy, I liked the opening to the Luhrmann film he showed great courage using the older language whilst still using modern action and violence. Overall if I had to choose a film I would pick Baz Luhrmanns action Romeo and Juliet.

An exploration of the importance of family as it applies to family structure, land ownership, farming and gender roles. The following paper discusses the book of two authors Carol Meyers and Joseph Blenkinsopp who attempt to demonstrate the importance of family through its connection with agriculture, social status, religious practice, economics, local and national government, marriage and child rearing in the anthology Families in Ancient Israel. By exploring the writings of two experts in Ancient Israel, this paper helps us to understand why the Jews were so concerned with the relatives and ancestors of individuals and why many economic and interpersonal decisions were based on the preservation of the households and land. This paper also examines the way in which these two authors address the issues of gender where they markedly differ in their perspectives. Biography of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia

Biography of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia Catherine the Great (May 2, 1729–Nov. 17, 1796) was empress of Russia from 1762 to 1796, the longest reign of any female Russian leader. She expanded Russias borders to the Black Sea and into central Europe during her reign. She also promoted westernization and modernization for her country, though it was within the context of maintaining her autocratic control over Russia and increasing the power of the landed gentry over the serfs. Fast Facts: Catherine the Great Known For: Empress of RussiaAlso Known As: Catherine IIBorn: May 2, 1729 in Stettin, Germany (now Szczecin, Poland)Parents: Prince Christian  August  von Anhalt-Zerbst, Princess Johanna Elisabeth of Holstein-GottorpDied: Nov. 17, 1796 in St. Petersburg, RussiaSpouse: Grand Duke Peter (Peter III) of RussiaChildren: Paul, Anna, AlexeiNotable Quote: I beg you take courage; the brave soul can mend even disaster. Early Life Catherine the Great was born Sophia Frederike Auguste in Stettin, Germany (now Szczecin, Poland), on May 2, 1729 (April 21 in the Old Style calendar). She was known as Frederike or Fredericka. Her father was Prussian Prince Christian  August  von Anhalt-Zerbst and her mother was Princess Johanna Elisabeth of Holstein-Gottorp. As was common for royal and noblewomen, she was educated at home by tutors. She learned French and German and also studied history, music, and the religion of her homeland, Lutheranism. Marriage She met her future husband, the Grand Duke Peter (later known as Peter III), on a trip to Russia at the invitation of Empress Elizabeth, Peters aunt, who ruled Russia after taking power in a coup.  Elizabeth, unmarried and childless, had named Peter as her heir to the Russian throne. Peter, though the Romanov heir, was a German prince. His mother was Anna, daughter of Peter the Great of Russia, and his father was the Duke of Hostein-Gottorp.  Peter the Great had 14 children by his two wives, only three of whom survived to adulthood.  His son Alexei died in prison, convicted of plotting to overthrow his father. His elder daughter Anna was the mother of the Grand Duke Peter, whom Catherine married.  Anna had died in 1728 following the birth of her only son, a few years after her father died and while her mother Catherine I of Russia ruled. Catherine the Great (or Catherine II) converted to Orthodoxy, changed her name, and married the Grand Duke Peter in 1745. Though Catherine had the support of Peters mother, the Empress Elizabeth, she disliked her husband- Catherine later wrote she had been more interested in the crown than the person- and first Peter and then Catherine were unfaithful. Her first son Paul later emperor (or czar) of Russia as Paul I, was born nine years into the marriage, and some question whether his father was Catherines husband.  Her second child, daughter Anna, was likely fathered by Stanislaw Poniatowski.  Her youngest child Alexei was most likely the son of Grigory Orlov.  All three were officially recorded, however, as Peters children. Empress Catherine When Czarina Elizabeth died at the end of 1761, Peter became ruler as Peter III and Catherine became the empress consort.  She considered fleeing, as many thought that Peter would divorce her, but Peters actions as emperor soon led to a coup against him. Military, church, and government leaders removed Peter from the throne, planning to install Paul, then 7 years old, as his replacement.  Catherine, however, with the help of her lover Orlov won over the military in St. Petersburg and gained the throne for herself in 1762, later naming Paul as her heir.  Soon after, she may have been behind Peters death. Her early years as empress were devoted to gaining the support of the military and nobility to strengthen her claim as empress. She had her ministers carry out domestic and foreign policies designed to establish stability and peace; instituted reforms inspired by the Enlightenment, a philosophical, intellectual, and cultural movement of the 17th and 18th centuries; and updated Russias legal system to provide equality of people under the law.   Foreign and Domestic Strife Stanislas, the king of Poland, was Catherines former lover, and in 1768 Catherine sent troops to Poland to help him suppress a revolt. The rebels brought in Turkey as an ally, and the Turks declared war on Russia.  When Russia beat the Turkish troops, the Austrians threatened Russia with war. Russia and Austria partitioned Poland in 1772.  By 1774, Russia and Turkey had signed a peace treaty, with Russia winning the right to use the Black Sea for shipping. While Russia was  still technically at war with the Turks, Cossack Yemelyan Pugachev led a revolt at home.  He claimed that Peter III was still alive and that oppression of serfs and others would be ended by deposing Catherine and reinstituting Peter IIIs rule.  It took several battles to defeat the rebellion, and after this uprising that included many of the lower classes, Catherine backed off many of her reforms to benefit that stratum of society. Government Reorganization Catherine then began reorganizing government in the provinces, strengthening the role of the nobility and making operations more efficient.  She also tried to reform municipal government and expand education. She wanted Russia to be seen as a model of civilization, so she paid considerable attention to the arts and sciences to establish the capital of St. Petersburg as a major center for culture. Russo-Turkish War Catherine sought the support of Austria in moving against Turkey and planned to seize Turkeys European lands.  In 1787, Turkeys ruler declared war on Russia.  The Russo-Turkish War took four years, but Russia gained a large amount of land from Turkey and annexed Crimea.  By that time, Austria and other European powers had withdrawn from their alliances with Russia, so Catherine wasnt able to realize her plan to take over lands as far as Constantinople. Polish nationalists again rebelled against Russian influence, and in 1793 Russia and Prussia annexed more Polish territory. In 1794 Russia, Prussia, and Austria annexed the rest of Poland. Succession and Death Catherine became concerned that her son Paul was not emotionally fit to rule. She planned to remove him from the succession and name Pauls son Alexander as heir.  But before she could make the change, she died of a stroke on Nov. 17, 1796. Her son Paul ascended to the throne. Legacy Russians continue to admire Catherine for increasing the boundaries of the country and streamlining its governance. At the end of her reign, Russia had broadened to the west and south over more than 200,000 square miles; provinces had been reorganized and towns renovated, expanded, or built from scratch; trade had expanded; military battles had been won; and the royal court had transformed into an attraction for the greatest minds of Europe. Catherine was a patron of literature who promoted Russian culture and one of the few women, including British Queens Elizabeth I  and Victoria, to have been influential enough to have epochs named after them. Though outside observers acknowledged her energy and administrative ability, they saw her more as a harsh, unscrupulous ruler, egotistical, pretentious, and domineering, a woman of action who could be ruthless when it served her or the state. She was also widely known for being lusty, having taken young lovers up to her death at age 67. Sources Catherine the Great: Empress of Russia. How race, gender and sexual orientation appeal to some underlying Essay

How race, gender and sexual orientation appeal to some underlying biological influences - Essay Example 2211). In other words, the assumption that race and ethnicity are merely biological traits is utterly mistaken. Human categories such as gender and sexual orientation are oftentimes subjected to intense debates, especially gender orientation, as to whether they are nature or nurtured; and if there is a correlation between genes and gender orientation; the environment and gender orientation. Later on, an elaborative analysis shall be taken in order to explain whether, if indeed, race, sex, and gender orientation appeal to some biological influences. Also, this paper shall attempt to provide consequential and pertinent corroborations that should clarify some mistaken understandings in so far as the issues on biological influences in race, sex, and gender orientation are concerned. [Student’s Last Name] 2 Race Race â€Å"was a presumably biological feature that an individual had, but was composed of disparate elements that might contradict one another within a single body† (Marks 108). ... Race has been conventionally considered to classify population according to communal biological traits like genes, hair, eyes, and other apparent physical features (Drewnowski et al. 2211). While race expresses a common characteristic among a number of people, it is used profoundly to emphasize cultural and social characteristics and not biological influences (Drewnowski et al. 2211). Therefore, the attempts to study the biological influences in race are something that is not feasible. In fact, â€Å"if races are discrete groups of populations, the continuous nature of human variation undermines the utility of race as a basic way to study the species† (Marks 108). This is particularly true in that while it is â€Å"something relatively stable† (108) as it is part of human physiological composition, the evolution of man through its years of existence must have transpired significant modifications on its genetic composition with every succeeding generation that passes. Th us, obviously, there is no avenue through which one can scrutinize biological influences to race as there is no consistent representation of the genetic detail that could be considered coherent or uniform regardless of human variations. â€Å"Race is [Student’s Last Name] 3 largely a social category† (Marks 109). It â€Å"correlates to some extent with genetics but is principally derived from a non-scientific or folk concept of heredity† (109). This is partly due to the fact that while genetics affect race to some degree, there is no guaranteed uniformity or coherence on this biological influences due to the genetic changes that take place with respect to every generation that passes; thus, there can be no effective approach to completely scrutinize the organic

Johnny Cupcakes Essay Example for Free

Johnny Cupcakes Essay Johnny Cupcakes is a multi-million dollar clothing brand. The brand was founded in 2001 by Johnny Earle. One of Johnnys acquired nicknames was Johnny cupcakes. He thought it would be funny to make a couple random shirts that said Johnny Cupcakes on them for the fun of it (Earle, 2012). After massive interest in these shirts, he decided to continue to make more and change up the designs. In 2001, Johnny stated, the band I was in, On Broken Wings, finally got signed to a record label and we began to tour full time (Earle, 2012). This opened up Johnny and his t-shirts to a larger crowd of customers in different parts of the country. This boosted the brands popularity and Johnny decided to quit the band and focus all of his time, effort, and attention on his t-shirts. Johnny ended up going to trade shows in Las Vegas and eventually ended up getting carried by shops in Japan, Europe, and Canada in addition to a few other US locations (Earle, 2012). Johnny had a turning point moment at that very same trade show later on that year. He realized people didnt like having the same things as others and that they enjoyed uniqueness. At this point Johnny made the decision to pull all his shirts from retail stores. Earle 2012 stated that he decided to make all of his t-shirts limited edition and exclusive, only selling them through his website and later on in his own retail stores. As the Johnny Cupcakes brand grew, Johnny opened up stores in Hull, MA; Boston, MA; Las Angeles, CA; and London, England. Johnny states that Above all, Ill continue to focus on enhancing my customers experiences through my stores, events, website, designs, and packaging. I will never ever sell my brand to investors for all the money in the world. I think youll find that things will only get more interesting from here (Earle, 2012). The Johnny Cupcakes brand to some can be described as streetwear. Hundreds, 2011 defines streetwear as a genre of contemporary apparel, united between sportswear and military looks, and is one that speaks to a spectrum of subcultures (skateboarding and hip-hop mostly). Some of Johnny Cupcakes major competitors are also streetwear brands such as Us Versus Them, Reason, Benny Gold, Situationormal, Flying Coffin, Clot, Diamond, Fuct, Alife, The Hundreds, A Bathing Ape, Supreme, and Rebel8 among others. These companies not only produce unique designs and clothing, they have a fan base, and what some might call a cult following. They represent more than just a t-shirt. They differentiate themselves by their designs, material, limited edition collections, and the customer experience. Johnny Cupcakes top products are his limited edition t-shirts, but the company also sells sweatshirts, hats and accessories. One of the things that make JC stand out is their packaging. The supplies the compan y needs and uses are not just clothing/accessory based, but just as important is their packaging. Johnny Cupcakes uses bakery style boxes with their cupcake and crossbones logo on it. The company also uses specially made tissue paper to wrap the bought goodies up in. The tissue paper is also marked with the JC logo. The are two major external factors that greatly influence Johnny Cupcakes as a company and those are the economy and trends. Since Johnny Cupcakes offers luxury items (those items that consumers dont need, but rather want), the economy can play a significant role in their profits. When times are tough, like in an economic recession, the majority of people watch their money more closely. These people may choose to only buy things out of necessity rather than splurge on things they want. Another big obstacle that JC has to stay on top of is the trends of their market. Clothing styles and designs come and go, therefore, Johnny Cupcakes needs to stay at the forefront of what their target market likes otherwise they could easily become extinct. One way JC battles these two external factors is making every shirt limited edition. The limited edition status gives the feel of exclusiveness. People not only crave exclusiveness, but will pay top dollar for it. Because theyre collectibles and not just apparel, customers are willing to pay $60 for a Johnny Cupcakes shirtand even stand in line for a new release like kids waiting for concert tickets (Spaeder 2007). This exclusiveness plays off of our cultures social classes. Most Americans want to be in a better social class. Exclusiveness is a trait that is common in the highest of classes. The limited edition shirts not only sets the standards for someones social status, but also keeps inventory at a low, making sure the products that are produced are sold. Having limited edition shirts erases much of the risks and fears of the changing trends of JCs market. Since there are only a handful of the shirts available, they are long gone before the design and style gets soggy. Also, this allows the company to be very flexible with the changing market. The two major internal factors that impact the organization are how they enhance the customer experience and their product packaging. These are two very important factors that help create the Johnny Cupcakes brand. They are part of the JC culture and without them, the brand wouldnt be what it is today. Part of the customer experience lies in JCs three retail store locations. Theyre set up just like bakeries, complete with glass display shelves, employees wearing aprons and the smell of vanilla frosting in the air (Spaeder 2001). During big releases or setting up weekend pop-up stores, Johnny himself will be there to greet and talk with everyone of the customers that walk through his store. This again is part of the experience and connection he wants his fans to feel when they think of the Johnny Cupcakes brand. Johnny thinks nice packaging sets an experience, a memory, or a safe-keeping that is sometimes just as important as the product itself. I’m a sucker for nice packaging (Earle, 2012). When conducting a SWOT analysis of Johnny Cupcakes, some of the companys strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats have already been discussed. JCs major strengths are the exclusiveness it personifies by selling limited edition shirts and the customer experience it provides. One of its major weaknesses is the fact that it only has three retail stores and an online store. If it were to grow (and being a multi-million dollar business it has the resources to do this) it could reach more of a customer base and increase not only its fan following, but its sales as well. A huge opportunity that Johnny Cupcakes has is the fact that it has done several successful collaborations with other companies including Nickelodeon and Hello Kitty, which expands its customer and fan base. As with all companies, a threat is competition. If JC can stay authentic to its audience then it will overcome the competition. As stated earlier, since JC is a luxury brand, the economy and trends are another threat. Listening to their market will definitely help subdue these threats. One of Johnny Cupcakes biggest resources and assets are its customers. Johnny Cupcakes has not only been able to acquire customers, but also fans and audiences (which is much more powerful). The reason the JC brand has been able to do this is because of the experience a customer gets when going into a store or a pop-up shop. When a customer sees their Johnny Cupcakes shirt they remember an experience they had when purchasing the shirt. I personally have two JC shirts (one was given as a gift so I dont have an experience to associate with that but my parents, who bought the shirt for me do). I do have a vivid recollection of an experience I had when purchasing my first Johnny Cupcakes t-shirt at a pop-up shop on Marthas Vineyard. There was a line of people waiting at a small bakery for it to open its doors. Everyone was unsure of what the t-shirts would look like because the designs had not yet been released. Not knowing what shirts will be sold definitely gives a little sense of excitement and surprise; and being excited about a brand goes a long way with customer loyalty. The waiting fans were given diner-like menus to see what shirts would be available. This definitely embodies the Johnny Cupcakes culture and experience. Once the doors were open to the bakery only a few people were allowed in at a time. This also gave the impression of exclusiveness. The limited edition shirts available were all Marthas Vineyard related. Not only is MV a huge tourist location, but being a resident of the island I had a sense of pride and being able to wear something relating to the island meant something to me, as I am sure it did to others, whether they were residents or tourists gaining a unique souvenir. After purchasing the shirt and leaving the bakery, I was greeting outside by Johnny Earle himself who not only took a picture with me, but also signed my shirt. My parents had a similar experience, telling me what a meaningful conversation they had with Johnny. Every time I pull out my JC t-shirt, I remember my unique experience of t-shirt buying. Johnny Cupcakes is a differentiation strategy user that sells an experience, along with his products. The way the business is run creates fans. JC leverages the companys resources, the customer experience, to create fans and a following of the brand. There are a handful of such loyal fans that fly out to all his releases to be able to experience them and not miss out on any product or show. JC, on a smaller scale, reminds me of the cult following of The Grateful Dead. Deadheads knew each show was unique and didnt want to miss out on any one of them. There are many Johnny Cupcakers who feel the same way. On March 24 of 2011, Johnny Cupcakes went international and opened up a store in London. Johnny had previously tested the waters in London by way of pop-up stores. His store in London was a huge hit, and he plans on a huge one-year celebration. Johnny opened up his store in London the same way he started is brand and opened up his other stores in the USA, with no investors, partnerships, or alliances. He started off small and threw his profits right back into his brand. One of the things Johnny Cupcakes prides itself on is not having to use investors or other companies to grow their brand. Part of this is what makes the brand who and what they are today. By staying authentic and listening to their market, Johnny Cupcakes will be continue to be successful in the years to come. With more years of success under his belt, Johnny may want to further exp and his brand in the global market. References Earle, J. (2012). Story. The Green Mile Essay -- Essays Papers

The Green Mile For my third quarter book report I read The Green Mile written by Stephen King. This book is about an old man, Paul Edgecomb, recalling his experiences when he worked as the cell block captain in Cold Mountain state penitentiary. Paul was the cell block captain of death row in this Alabama correctional institute. This story takes place in a nursing home. The narrator Paul is writing a book about when he was cell block captain in 1932. During the time he is writing his book he points out how people never change, how there is always the bully, and so on. He compares writing the book to a time machine. Both seem to take him back to 1932, and every lasdetail is clear. This book made me feel involved. As the reader you start off in the nursing home, with Paul, and ...

They are returning to America after visiting London and the surrounding area with their Aunt Daisy. George is always getting in trouble and is very curious. He’s been all over the ship even to areas where he is not supposed to go. He’s made friends in steerage and exasperated his aunt and his sister and a number of the other first class passengers. His behavior had previously been causing problems between him and his father. Since George and Phoebe’s mother died a few years ago the family just hasn’t been the same. This trip was a time for George and his father to get some distance and calm down. George also describes many characters such as his aunt, sister, and other people that he meets aboard. He meets some people that become that become famous from the sinking. On the night of April f ourteenth snuck out of bed and went in to the cargo hold to find the mummy rumored to be cursed and also rumored to be on board. When he got into the cargo hold a huge bang and shutter rocked the whole ship and within a second he was completely surround by water. He returned to his room only to be awoken by one of his maids, him and his aunt were instructed to â€Å"dress warmly and put your life belts on†. When they were up and ready to go to the life boats they realized that Phoebe was gone. He soon realized that phoebe must have followed him to the cargo hold and did not see or know how to leave. He soon discovered that phoebe left lemon drops where ever she went to find her way back. When he was looking he ran in to Enzo and Marco that he met before on the ship. Enzo was screaming â€Å"phoebes†, she herd and came running to them. Lucky for George, he had met the architect of the Titanic the night before. The architect showed George all the secret passages. So, Marco , Enzo, Phoebe, Aunt Daisy and George were able to get back up to the First Class Deck. Just as they were about to get on 1 of only 16 life boats, the sailors wouldn't let Marco or George get on the boat. Enzo got on with Phoebe and Aunt Daisy.Marco decided to them jump into the freezing water. Marco helped George get onto a floating piece of furniture to survive the cold water. But, part of Marco was still in the water. Marco was starting to fade away because the water was so cold. George said the water felt like needles were stabbing him. Luckily, there was a life boat coming by and George was able to get on the boat. He lifted Marco into the boat because he was slowly dying. After a couple of hours, a big ship called the Carpathia came by and George and Marco were rescued. On the Carpathia, George and Marco were able to find Phoebe, Aunt Daisy and Enzo. They were all so happy. The whole family made it back to New York and George & Phoebe were met by their Papa. Aunt Daisy stayed i n New York with Marco to take care of Enzo while Marco was in the hospital from being in the freezing water too long. George and his Papa became friends again. George also was able to finally accept that his mother was never coming back. She died before their trip and this is why George was always into trouble. In the end things turned out to be good for his family and his friends.

The Social Problem Of Teenage Drinking - 725 Words

Teenage drinking has become one of the largest social issues among young people in America today. Although more than half of high schoolers drink on a regular basis, the problem is that they are not aware of how dangerous alcohol can be. Although the health risks of heavy drinking are known and understood, the social habit continues to be accepted as a cultural norm. Is it surprising then, that the young people are beginning to drink at school ages. The reality is that alcohol is often the cause of many problems among these teenagers. Simply put, alcohol ruins many young people’s lives, and is now of the most serious problems young people face. Because underage drinking is a serious concern and associated with harmful consequences. Many interventions to prevent underage drinking have been developed, however; not all of them have been proven to be effective. According to Spoth, Greenberg, Turrisi, R. Laws and sanctions against underage drinking exist to some extent in all states, although many state laws contain loopholes. In Florida where I reside, it is illegal for a parent to give alcohol to a minor even on their private property. Unfortunately, in some other countries it is not illegal if a parent to provide alcohol to a minor. With these cultural differences, it becomes harder and more difficult to reduce underage drinking. In my opinion, I think when it comes to underage drinking it should be uniform across the border, we are dealing with children ‘s health and their future. As adults, it is our job to provide them with the best future and environment for them to learn and grow. When adults give alcohol to minors a fine is not enough, I think if parents give alcohol to a minor there is a need for harsher consequences.
